The inn, know as 'Zum Alten Marstall', uniquely blends the tradition of a "hay hotel" with modern facilities. You may select from a variety of lodging choices for your stay at our inn. Choose from simple rooms, more private rooms, as well as the opportunity to spend one or more nights the old-fashioned way, in your sleeping bag on a soft bed of fresh hay! Furthermore, you will awaken to an included breakfast in our newly constructed dining room within the Alten Marstall.
While popular with bicyclists and other adventurers, the Heuhotel is an experience that will definitely be a highlight of your trip, no matter how you find us. Furthermore, the immediate area surrounding the Heuhotel offers many historical as well as picturesque sights.
Just on the hill above the Heuhotel, and within walking distance, is Burg Guttenberg, a castle dating back to the 1200s, which has been occupied by the von Gemmingen family for over 550 years. The castle Burg Guttenberg is open for viewing, and includes a museum, chapel, renowned bird of prey demonstration, a restaurant - the Burgschenke (tavern) - and an unmatched view of the Neckar River.
The Heuhotel can also serve as a base camp for visits to the quaint medieval city of Bad Wimpfen, Burg Hornberg and its vineyards, and excursions along the Neckar valley. We are conveniently located south of Heidelberg and north of Stuttgart. So please use the links to let us know that you would like to join us for a welcome respite. For those traveling by train with backpack and sleeping bag, we are a moderate hike from the Gundelsheim train station, just cross the river and head towards Burg Guttenberg!
